How to Get Free Coffee

Today, the 1st of October 2019, is International Coffee Day! To celebrate, we’ve created our own guide on how to claim free cups of the stuff. Have a read, then grab your free cuppa joe and enjoy your complimentary caffeine-buzz.

While most of the offers in our guide are available year-round, for today only you can also get a coffee from any Costa Express machine completely free of charge! And, if you find yourself near a Young’s pub you can grab a free Americano, too – just head to the ‘My Treats’ section on their app ‘On Tap’ and you will find the offer. Furthermore, if you have a registered Subway card/have their app – it will be loaded with 100 points so that you can purchase a free coffee. Enjoy! Now on to all the other ways you can get free coffee…

1. Mobile rewards

Many mobile networks have rewards apps that regularly offer freebies as an incentive to use them and, since coffee is the way to our hearts, they often give away free cuppas to users. For example, if you’re with O2, you get a free hot drink, iced latte or iced Americano every Tuesday or Wednesday.

Vodaphone and Three also have rewards apps. Although free drinks may not as be as regular as for those on O2 (lucky so and sos!), it’s still very common to have coffee freebies pop up on them every now and again. Therefore, make sure to check if your network provider has a loyalty app and, if they do, download it so you don’t miss out!

Once downloaded, just check the rewards section of the app when you can to see if a new gift has popped up for you. They offer all sorts of freebies – not just coffee!  We’ve also seen stationary, days out, ice cream, origami and lots, lots more over the years.

2. Loyalty apps

Similarly to mobile rewards, many restaurants and cafes have loyalty apps. Cafe Nero, Costa, Greggs, McDonald’s and other big-name eateries use these. Download them, and you may find a free coffee, as well as other treats, waiting for you in their rewards section from time-to-time.

Other companies even reward you with coffee every day!

For example, join the Waitrose loyalty programme, myWaitrose, and you’ll get a free coffee from their self-service machine every. single. day. You will just need to make an in-store purchase and bring a reusable cup with you or you won’t be able to claim. Please read their T&Cs to see what purchases count – but usually anything over 10p will do the trick.

If you have an IKEA Family card, you can get free coffee for everyone you’re with from Monday to Friday when at one of their stores. A great way to keep energised when taking on the never-ending pathway through dream living rooms and kitchens or to accompany your Swedish meatballs at lunch.

3. Welcome gifts

And, even better, some companies even offer you a free gift just for signing up!

Download the Greggs app, and you’ll be rewarded with a free cup of coffee just for signing up. Again, Greggs regularly offer free gifts, such as sausage rolls, sweet treats, soft drinks and more, so sign up to make the most of their generosity.

We’ve also heard on the grapevine that if you download and register for the Cafe Nero app, you’ll get a free cup of coffee as a welcome gift.

4.  Loyalty cards

Lots of cafes use loyalty cards which let you earn points for each coffee you buy. Once you’ve bought a certain amount, you will be rewarded to a free one! These ‘loyalty cards’ can be either physical pieces of paper and cards or within their rewards app.

Places that use these include Cafe Nero, Starbucks, Muffin Break and Costa, just to name a few. Smaller cafes also use this rewards system, so always check to see if they have one and you could soon be earning a free coffee!

5. Free samples

Lots of companies give out free samples to promote a product, with the hope that those who try it will soon buy it. If you keep an eye on our website and sign up to our alerts, you’ll find lots of free samples of coffee to try. These can range from bags of beans and freshly ground to sachets of instant and even machine pods. In the past, we’ve had samples from big-name brands, like Carte Noire and Nescafe Azera, as well as smaller, more artisan companies.

That’s all for now, folks! We hope you enjoy your coffee and that it tastes just that much better because it’s freeeeeee!
